IYT MOY/ IYT MASTER OF YACHTS 200 TONS & YACHTMASTER CERTIFICATION

Effective January 1st 2009

> 1. The IYT Master of Yachts Coastal certificate will be renamed, "Mate 200 gt" with the subscript "Master of Yachts Coastal".
>
> 2. The Master of Yachts Offshore will be renamed "Master of Yachts, 200gt, Limited" with
> subscript that this is limited to a geographical area, i.e. 150 nautical miles from a safe haven.
>
> 3. The Master of Yachts Ocean will be renamed "Master of Yachts, 200gt, Unlimited"
> with the subscript that there are no geographical limitations (i.e. for use on all oceans).
>
> 4. We will be removing the "Power" Endorsement on all three Master of Yachts certificates. The assumption will be that all certificates will refer to power driven vessels unless the candidate has completed a sail "endorsement" by completing an additional "sail" examination. In this instance the certificate will list a "sail" endorsement. This will mirror the way the IYT MOY issue their Certificates of Competency with no indication of Power/Sail on the certificate.
>
> 5. The Master of Yachts "Unlimited" course will now include a written examination on the celestial syllabus, plus a two hour passage plan to be prepared under examination conditions in the classroom on the last, (6th) day of the course.
>
> Sights will be taken by all candidates during the course and reduced as part of their assessment. It is agreed that should the weather not allow this to happen, sights taken by the school instructor will be reduced and the candidates will be given practical sextant handling using either vertical or horizontal angles. It will no longer be necessary for students to submit sights taken on a 600 mile ocean passage to complete their certification.
>
> *The IYT MOY refers to the British "Maritime and Coastguard Agency".

THE IYT MASTER OF YACHTS COASTAL OVERVIEW

Overview
When it comes to facing the elements at sea, textbook knowledge is no substitute for practical experience. There is no doubt that aspiring Yachtsmen and women must prepare themselves as much as possible before being able to truly take full responsibility for themselves, their vessels and their crews. IYT Certification is of vital importance because it is an established and globally recognized measure of competency for the commanding of power and sail vessels. This certification not only makes yachting a pleasure, as it should be, but also a safer pursuit for all those who wish to participate now and in the future.

What is the IYT Master of Yachts Certificate?
The Master of Yachts Certificate is the most internationally recognized qualification for yachting.
The Master of Yachts Coastal certification is designed to provide the highest standard of maritime education for the professional and recreational yachtsman and woman. It is a course designed for those who have a basic knowledge and understanding of yachting with minimum on the water experience.

What are the advantages of holding an IYT Yachtmaster Certificate?
• IYT qualifications are recognized by marine insurance companies worldwide.
• IYT qualifications give the yachtsman and woman a much increased level of confidence in their ability to handle a yacht due to our intensive level of on the water training.
• IYT Certificates are accepted by yacht charter companies on a worldwide basis.

What Does The Course Consist Of?
A comprehensive live aboard course consisting of 6 days for sail or 5 days for power (includes
the practical exam), incorporating subjects including navigational charts and publications, dead reckoning and estimated position, position fixing, tides, tidal levels and data, pilotage, safety at sea, meteorology and much more. Because the IYT Master of Yachts Coastal course is conducted onboard a yacht it covers such practical seamanship skills as ropework, anchorwork, boat handling, docking, yacht presentation, navigation, passage planning and more.

What Is Required For The IYT Master of Yachts Coastal Exam?
• The course must be completed before applying for the exam.
• Minimum sea time requirements must also have been met before examination.

What Does The Exam Consist Of?
The exam will be conducted by an Independent IYT Master of Yachts examiner and takes the form
of an oral and practical test onboard a yacht. Candidates must demonstrate that they have sufficient ability to handle, dock, and anchor the boat with a required level of confidence. Candidates can expect to be examined on any subject contained within the syllabus and to be questioned on any of their yachting experience to date.

In the event that the examiner considers an examinee not to have achieved the required standards, an IYT Master of Yachts certificate will not be issued. In this case, a confidential report
will be sent to the candidate outlining the reason or reasons for failure and suggesting remedial action that could lead to the successful completion of the course. Completion of the IYT Master of Yachts course is not a guarantee of passing the examination and receiving your certificate.

What Are The Minimum Entry Requirements To Apply For The IYT Master of Yachts Coastal Course?
• In order to participate in this course, candidates should have logged 30 days and 800 miles including 2 days as watch leader/captain and 12 hours underway on watch at night. Evidence
of successful completion of prior approved training courses provided by an accepted and accredited body may allow the mileage requirement to be reduced to 500 nautical miles.
• Candidates may sit the course prior to obtaining the minimum sea time. However, they will
not be issued their IYT Master of Yachts Coastal Certificate until all the requirements have been
met.
• Verification of yachting experience must be signed by the captain of the yacht on which the candidate was sailing. Candidates claiming sea time during times when they were acting as captain may sign their own entries, but will need independent proof that can be verified by IYT.

How To Apply For Enrollment?
Candidates may apply to IYT Yachtmaster School yachtmaster@gokovasailing.com

(Acceptance onto the course does not automatically guarantee obtaining an IYT Yachtmaster Coastal Certificate. All the prerequisites must be fulfilled and satisfactory standards achieved in
all the modules).
