F.A.Q
Are IYT
licenses recognized by MCA
Our professional yachting courses are recognized by 25 different
Governments worldwide for commercial use including the British Maritime and
Coastguard Agency (MCA), and our commitment to standards of excellence,
hands on practical training and quality instruction have made IYT the
world's number one choice for nautical training.
Do we
sail in rainy weather?
We
sail rain or shine, in light wind and heavy wind - in just about everything
but a gale.
All the yachts we use have been selected for their suitability to sail
offshore. We teach you how to make a yacht sail in light winds, and how to
reef sail and manoeuver a yacht in heavy winds. You just need to bring your
own wet weather gear or you can
buy from us.
How
old/young do I have to be?
We
will take students from 16 to 100.
Will
you teach me on my own boat?
We
will train to your skill level, your boat and your goals. Our instructors
will teach you how to operate your boat to cater for what you want to learn
and what we know you need to learn.
Can I
customise a course to my needs?
We
do not change the formats of our courses as they are part of the world’s
best training scheme and we have criteria that must be met, but we can set
up a private lessons if required.
Do you
teach the STCW95 qualification?
Yes
we teach STCW95 courses.
Do you
teach catamaran sailing?
Yes we teach Catamaran siling in our
45 foot cat.
Do you teach in Motoryacht?
Yes, we teach in 10 meter motoryachts with twin engine. However motoryacht
and the fuel is extra and cost is shared by the number of students. Coast of
motoryacht is 350 per day.
Do I need to do all the courses from
beginning to end to get my IYT Master Of The Yacht Offshore ?
No,
you can enter at any stage as long as it is suitable to your experience. But
if you enter at a level higher than your experience, you may struggle as
prior knowledge/mileage is assumed. And it depend to the the licence that
you are currently holding.
There is a previous experience necessary section for each IYT
certificate.
I Already Have Qualifications - Are They Recognised?
There
are many courses and qualifications available but
the majority are not MCA recognised.
"I packed my bags and headed to Florida to find
myself a job. When I got here, I discovered that I also needed to go back to
studying as Australian nautical certificates below Master 3 were largely
unaccepted around the world. I continually heard about a British
organisation called the MCA and how you had to be “MCA certified” to get a
job." Martin Butler (Skipper 41metre Florida based mega yacht)
